Predicting Bicycle-on-Board Transit Choice in a University Environment

Bicycles-on-board (BoB) transit is a popular travel demand management (TDM) tool across many U.S. cities and universities, yet research on this mode within university environment remains minimal. The purpose of to investigate how personal neighborhood factors influence choice in setting. Relying attitudinal data from stated preference survey, study examined the effect characteristics seven key conditions willingness utilize BoB for “first mile” journey campus. used exploratory spatial analysis (ESDA), discrete modeling framework, geovisualizations understand likelihood choosing among population Flint, Michigan, USA. results revealed that majority constituents were not interested BoB, aside cluster near commercial business district. Also note was long commutes, reduced access parks bicycle facilities dissuaded people mode. Surprisingly, neighborhood’s walkability or bikeability had no respondent’s interest using BoB. Lastly, showcased where localized interventions may effectively increase future.
